Here are pics of the first Franklin half I got. I think I overpayed a bit, but I really like it, and it has amazing luster. I personally grade it 62/63, but that isn't why I bought it. For some reason it caught my eye, and decided to buy him. Here are the pics. Tell me what ya think. Franklin Half Obverse Franklin Half Reverse Phoenix
I think it's a great coin, and I hope you enjoy it for many years to come. Franklin Halfs are a great series. Lots of collecting opportunities. Good luck!
Thanks! I am thinking about doing a Franklin half set, but that is a goal for the future I would say. But this one is awesome IMO. Thanks for replying. Phoenix
Thanks. Alot of things caught my eye, but this and the 56 proof nickel I posted just attracted me for some reason. Phoenix
Phoenix, Thanks for posting the pictures! What a GREAT looking coin, and a great start to your Franklin collection. I too just started collecting Franklin halves. Someone on Coin Talk (I still can't remember who it was! LOL) was talking about how great it was to collect the Franklin halves. I went to E-Bay, just to LOOK! (yeah right!! LOL) Then, after looking at a few of the Franklins, I was hooked! What a fine looking coin it is. I won auctions for a 1948-P, and a 1948-D Franklin. Both are NGC graded MS-65. I can't wait to get them!! I started at the beginning, kind of anal, but I REALLY NEEDED TO START THERE!!! LOLOL Good luck, and PLEASE, keep posting the pictures!! yer friend swick
Your welcome. Thanks! Good luck on the set for you also, could you post pics of them when you get them? Or if you have pics already of them, that's awesome to. Might have been Speedy, I know he collects them. You can never just LOOK at coins lol, all that temtation, lol. I'd be excited to. Thanks, and I will, you do the same. Thanks everyone that replied! Phoenix
Nice looking coin! I have a few circulated franklins but as of yet I haven't seriously collected them. Do you know if it's FBL?
Thanks! First thingI checked, and a few marks shy unfortunatly. But, still a nice looking coin. Wish it was an FBL, lol. Thanks for responding, and everyone else that responded! Phoenix
Nice looking Frankie Phoenix!!! I just finished my set of AU-BU Franklins recently. I'd still like to get the 1955 Bugs Bunny variety yet in at least a nice MS65-66. You certainly have a very nice start on a nice set.
Very nice grab, Phoenix. A heck of lot better than my '57-D. You've got lines, there, from end-to-end, but I can't tell if they go all the way through. Tell you one thing I think I figured out, though, about these. "The book," let's just say, is one thing, and the way they slab these is another thing. If these lines are better than the fuzzy blow-up I'm seeing, I'd throw away the book, and start checking out some of these on Heritage. You might be surprised at what the grading companies let go at "FBLs." And, for that matter, what they don't. I know I was.
What a great set!!! I love these coins! It was also the first set I ever completed. While they can be cheap---they can also be $$$. The good part is that these can be cherry picked easy. Most dealers don't know alot about these and don't care alot either because they don't seem to know how much they can be worth. I bought a roll of 1962-D's at a dealers shop for $5 a coin, I sent off 5 to NGC...one came back MS64FBL, 3 came back MS65, and one came back MS65FBL. Now the 64FBL wasn't worth all that much...maybe $20...the 65's were worth about $50-$90 each....but the 65FBL is worth around $400+ In fact last few some sold for around $700! So keep your eyes open and you can find some great deals just like that. Also---don't forget to check out PROOF Franklins!! Speedy
Hey Clinker I would much rather have the 1953 or 54 or 56 Bugs Bunny rather than the 55 I only wish I could find them in my price range. Speedy
Thanks, I know, I'm saving up to get one. The 70-D I'm going to do later on, when I do a Kennedy set. Thanks! Thanks. Got a question. What makes a Franklin have to have to get the FBL designation? Does it just have to mean the bell lines go all the way around, or do they have to have no dings on them. They have a few dings, but not very bad. I'll get better clearer pics later on. I really like it, it is just stunning in hand. Thanks! Thanks! I want to try to do a set like that. Do you have pics of the set? I know I'd like to see them. Does it include the proofs? Thanks! That's cool, might be the first set I complete too. Depends what I want to do first, RPM Lincoln cents, or Franklins. Probably Franklins, be a bit easier to assemble. Do you have pics of your set? Wow, that is awesome! That is about melt. :thumb: That is a great deal! I will, the dealer I went to had only this one and another, and I liked this one the best. He doesn't seem to care for Franks for some reason, surprised that he had two. I definetly have my eye out for the proof Franks. They will look perfect in my collection (a good combo, I like Franks, and I love proof coins, so makes sense to keep an eye out for Proof Franks) Some I've seen are just Magnifecent. But pricey though. But shouldn't be to hard to complete the set. Thanks everyone that replied! Phoenix
I don't have a set of my complete set---nor of my half way completed set Right now I have a mixed grade set of UNC/CIR, and proof....after proofs are done I'm going to try to do a UNC set with the min. grade of MS. I know you didn't ask me... but here is what NGC goes by. The TOP and BOTTOM lines must be complete...PCGS only looks like BOTTOM.... NGC will let there be a nick or two in the lines (as will PCGS) as long as they are near the edges or really close to the crack in the bell.....if they are anywhere else they are not FBL. The lines have to be clear, and free of nicks. Coins that are super hard to find in FBL's are such as 1953-S, and the later 60's.... Speedy
Tha's fine. Still sounds awesome. That is fine, thanks. Now I don't know for sure if it won't qualify, I'll have to get pics later on. Thanks Speedy! Phoenix
I have yet to buy one of these though I am looking to buy one example in good shape. If I get one like the one you got I will feel good about it...
