Here is a purchase I made today for ten dollars, my dealer said that it was made either in the 1800's or early 1900's, he said there isn't really anyway of telling for sure... I'm sure some of you have one or more of these somewhere, this coins rev is AWESOME the only foreign coin that will ever enter my private collection. Oh, and sorry for such a long link to the photos I also have a couple of other pictures in there, i'm sure you will be able to tell which coin I am talking about

I get an error message from your link, even though I am signed in to Yahoo. From the name of your link I'm assuming you have a Maria Theresa Thaler restrike. Actually, they have been struck continuously since the 18th Century, and they can frequently be attributed to the year of manufacture. This link has been posted here before, but it's always a good one.
Not sure what you did, but the link isn't working for me.

penny to put a picture in without showing the link is very easy

type [...URL= put that long url right here...] put that descriptions such as CLICK ME right here [.../URL...] then close the url tag...

the / on the end is to close the tag make sure its on the second [...url...] also... dont use the dot dot dot (...) when doing this.. I did that so you can see the code

your code will end up looking simular

    [...URL=http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/grou....cy=112&.type=u...] CLICK ME [.../URL...]

(without the (...) on the ends)

it will look like this when finished

    CLICK ME

also penny it seems I cant send you a pm because your box is full... might want to look at it...

and satootoko is correct in that there is an error... i believe its because the group doesnt exist or hasnt been created...

I think the problem is that pennycase is linking to his private photo album on Yahoo - only he can see those pics.

Pennycase - your best bet may be using the Attachment function. Down below the box you type your response into when making a post you will see Manage Attachemnts - click on that. It will open another window that allows you to browse your hard drive - find the picture file you want - and upload it to Coin Talk. Once you find the file - click on it - click on Add This File - and when the name of the file shows up in the dialogue box - click on All Done.

Then just click on Submit Reply just like you always do and a link to the pic will be provided in your post automatically.

For the life of me I never saw that there....My vision must be weary from looking at too many coins! But, as to the reply on that they have been remade for a long while now, to the belief of my dealer, he says that it has the characteristics that it was made in the 1800's, the obvious sign is that it is not perfectly round, re-made before higher technology was known, in minting coins, and that it still has the lettered edge n whatnot that sticks out, and some other stuff that I halfway caught and remembered, anyways, no matter what time preiod it was made in, I love the design on this coin! :D:D:D

I've been looking over that site, and due to what the.....Whatever those weird words are they they use to describe the X on the obverse, and the Design on the rim of the coin, I'm thinking an 1830 coin.... And as I said before, Heck if I know, it's just a nice lookin coin to me. :D

You are not alone in your love of that design Penny - for that is one of most popular coins of all time. By the way - the owner of that site you used to attribute your coin is a member here at Coin Talk and perhaps he can help you further.

Of course he is an ornery old cuss and often difficult to talk to

But when the subject of a conversation concerns this coin - once you get him going - Boy Howdy sometimes he won't ever shutup  :p :D

err sorry to spoil the party but that coin is a fake.there were loads of these reproductions made very few in good condition.A lot of the fakes are even dated before they were made.

Think about it a 1780 coin in that condition for 10 bucks !!!

The "Levantine Thaler" also became the best known and most popular silver coin in the Arabian world and the unofficial currency of some of the lands in North Africa. In Austria, Maria Theresa Thalers were legal tender until October, 1958. Owing to an imperial patent dating back to September 19, 1857, the 1780 design of the empress Maria Theresa "Levantine Thalers" have been continously restruck unchanged, as an historical souvenir combining beauty of design with the value of silver.

    just read his advert

he hid it real well didint he though if you read the last couple lines there it says it all.

Maybe you misunderstood me, for 1780 wasn't actually when I stated the coin was MADE, I stated from the designs that I'm thinking it was re-made in 1830 . You know, before you start shooting off your trap, I suggest you take the time to read a sentance all the way through, because you might just cross someones line. By the way Jimmy, the dealer that I buy 95 % of my coins from has been into numismatics for 23+ years, how about yourself?

Actually, disregard my last quote there, keep this one in mind. Untill you have MY coin, in your hands, without undefiable evidence other than your opinion, then, come back and talk to me about how I have a fake coin. I'm sure lots of people had the chance to purchase a rare/nice coin, for a decent price, before it got sold off for a large sum of money, but, you know, I'm just guessin that they went to someone and asked them about it, and the person told them not to do it, cause it was fake, seems to me that the third party wouldn't have even laid eyes on the coin????... Hmmmm, perhaps if this was a post about " Is this coin fake" , then your thread would do justice here, but, wrong, it's about how nice looking of a coin I got for 10 bucks :D

There's a huge difference between legally authorized "restrikes" and fakes. The Maria Theresa Thaler in its various incarnations has the highest mintage in the history of coinage, even greater than the Mexican Pillar Dollar!

That said, the tone of this thread has reached the point that it's time to close it. Enjoy your beautiful coin Pennycase. Jimmy Goodfella, you don't have to buy one.
