Hi everyone, I am a little excited because I think I found my first double die in a 1964 canadian penny. The picture is taken with some really good lenses but with a low grade camera, you can still see the doubling starts in the 'H' and goes through to the 'R'. Through the lens it almost looks like a shadow but it isnt. Is this considered a double die? The coin is in rough shape so would it be worth anything? Even if it isnt im still happy as long as I can say I found my first double die.
Hi Merc Crazy.I thought the picture showed rather well. You can see the queens hairline across the top is doubled and the everything from the 'H' in Elizabeth to the 'R' in Gratia.I can see how clear the 'ATIA' of GRATIA is where there is no doubling for comparison. I will try to get a better picture
I never assume a coin is double die unless I ask an expert because I really can not seem to tell. Among other things, double dies are varieties and identified by more than the double die. But off the top of my head, that looks like normal mechanical doubling. ruben
