My first deal (swap) on CT was a smashing success (thanks to H8_modern)

Somewhere I read about H8_modern collecting Lucite coin paperweights.

I had this old Nassau (Bahamas) souvenir paperweight with various coins in it (British, East Caribbean, and Haitian). Judging from the BU grade and 1958 date on the Haitian coin, not to mention the seemingly strange assortment of countries, it was pretty obvious that this paperweight was made with coins that circulated in the Bahamas prior to the advent of their own coinage in 1966. So it's fairly old. It's a cool item but probably not worth a ton. Someone gave it to me, so I had nothing in it.

Since H8_modern collects these, I offered it to him, and told him I'd take one or two BU or proof modern silver coins in return (of any size, bullion content, country, or type).

Essentially I said "just surprise me".

    And boy, did he!

In return, I just got this beautiful 1976 Turks & Caicos Islands 20-crown piece. It's bigger than a silver dollar (45 mm), struck in .925 (Sterling) silver, and has 1.1509 oz. of bullion content! Furthermore, it lists for $40 in MS63 and has nearly $22 in melt value alone, as of this posting. And it's in the original government packaging. But that's not all. It has a great reverse design showing four little cameos with all the ages of Queen Victoria. (I have a daughter named Victoria. Turns out, so does he.)

I've long admired this design, but this is the first time I've actually seen one of these coins in hand, let alone owned one.

(Please pardon the wretched cellphone pix- my new camera setup is not here yet)

    So how cool is that?

I would have considered something worth 10-12 bucks as plenty for the paperweight, so needless to say, I was delighted with this deal. He mentioned being satisfied with the paperweight, so I think it's a win-win.

Still, I can't help but feeling like I came out a little bit on the better end of this trade, even if by accident.

H8_modern... I owe you a modest boost on the next deal, if we ever do biz again. I figured this shoutout was the least I could do (plus I just wanted to post the coin anyway).

@jaceravone LOVES these Turks and Caicos coins and I think has a complete set. They're all NGC and very high grade. The proofs make those 4 portraits really pop with that deep cameo look. You got a great deal!

Hmm. My very scientific poll has revealed an important and little-known fact: apparently there are a lot of bacon fans out there.

(Well, at least five have been discovered so far, as of this post.)

Very cool coin. T&C is my favorite vacation spot in the Caribbean and I've picked up a few of their coins (not that one, though :().

I would be interested to hear what he thinks about the paperweight but I'm thinking you both did great.

Well, nothing is as good as bacon - except maybe chocolate - so I had to be honest with my vote, but this deal is close. :)

I did rather set myself and my coin up to lose by including bacon as a poll option, didn't I?

That's why the poll was edited to allow multiple inclusive votes.

Speaking of which, after 15 years on the CU forums, I must say this software interface makes theirs (especially their new UNimproved version) look like a corroded, scratched VG8-details 1994 Zincoln being compared to a lustrous MS63 Saint (with CU being the zinc cent).

If I remember correctly, I paid between $75-100 for one of these some 4 years ago. I have the book but only the bottom half of the cardboard box it came in. So Yeah....I think you did very well out of this exchange. :)

You might want to consider submitting that Saint to CAC for a gold beanie.

That's cool. My my deal making on CT came from Ancientnoob and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell it is. It's an overstrike but I find nothing that compares to it.
