I'm a new coin talk member and first time posting any of my coins here. This is my first coin of the new year. A Maximinvs II follis from Alexandria mint 308-310. Was actually listed as a Galerius coin and believed it was until after receiving it someone pointed out to me over at Forvm that the obverse legend read Maximinvs instead of Maximianvs like it was listed as. Galerius had exact same type and obverse and reverse legends but somehow the difference of one letter, A, in the spelling of their names was over looked by the dealer and me as well. Still really like the coin, though, even if its not from the emperor I had believed it was for. Obv: IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMINVS P F AVG, Laureate head right. Rev: GENIO IMP-ERATORIS, Genius stg left, modius on head, chlamys over l shoulder, holding patera from which liquor flows & cornucopiae. B/P in r. field, K in l. field. ALE in ex.

Aidan, lord of the rings, mithrandir is another name for Gandalf if I'm correct? One of my favorite historical figures is Mithridates VI of Pontus. He had an incredible life and fascinating story.

Mithradates, that is a gorgeous coin from an interesting historical period. Coins 17 and 25 on this page

    http://esty.ancients.info/FILAVGG/

are from the same mint with the similar field marks. Maximinus II and Constantine were given the title FIL AVGG which appears only on coins of this time period.

Thank you valentinian for that link. which also even mentions the confusion that can be caused between maximinus and galerius coins which is what had happened with this coin by the dealer and even with me til quickly pointed out for me. Seems maximian can be easily confused with those two also.

Gonna take me a bit to figure out how to use some of these tools when posting. Tried to tag in that last post but not sure if it worked out very well. Lol
