That is a nice looking coin. I have several coins from Norway and they are all very attractive to me. Also, I am 1/4 Norwegian and that is one of the reasons why I like them so much. Congratulations on your recent addition to your collection.
I'm usually not a fan of the darker toning but I like this one somehow. It is more of a bluish tint in hand, but its a nice honest coin.
While I would certainly not expect everybody to know what or where Eidsvoll is, I am sometimes surprised by such questions. (Similarly odd: "I have a coin that says Helvetia ... where is that from?") In the years before the search engines and Wikipedia came up, they made sense. Today -- "Eidsvoll was the site where the constitutional assembly met to draft and sign the Constitution of Norway on 17 May 1814. The building (Eidsvollbygningen) in which the meetings were held is today a famous museum." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eidsvoll Christian
Hello Chrisild; Any coin or stamp that says "Helvetia" can be attributed to Switzerland. I only know this because I was a heavy duty stamp collector in the 70s and 80s.
Guess I was just rotten or in the mood to rant. What I meant was this: Before we had search engines and online encyclopedias, it sure made sense to ask a question such as, what is Helvetia? Nowadays ... it takes more seconds to write such a question (and even many more to get a reply) than to simply do a web search for the word. "Eidsvoll" may be a little more challenging though. I have seen this coin before, But always white, too white IMO to be original, as in NO toning at all, not even the rim. I’ll take some natural tone any day.
Very pretty coin. I just bought a 1914 10 ore from Norway a few days ago, for less than melt value heh, it's EF or so, I haven't taken pics yet, but will post them when I do
