Yeah, hopefully after may I will be able to get a job and buy some more valuble coins, instead of lots of wheaties. I was at a fea market yesterday, and a dealer was their. One of his friends walked in, and yelled " Hey dude, you know your walking around with a popcicle stick stuck to your butt?". I said no, and he got it off for me, and we started talking. And he gave me some advice. Instead of buying lots of cheap old coins, buy the best coin you can afford. P.S I forgot to post it, but I have a set of 1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollars, not a mint set, but in VF condition as you could say, one from each mint city, SF D and P. Got it for $5.00, so I figured for an extra $2 dollars more then face value it was worth it. Also he gave me a state quarter with P mint mark, saying you wont find that in pocket change around here. I don't see why Philly is much more rare then Denver and San Fransico. Grant.
depending on were you live, you will either recieve mainly Denver coins, or Phillidelphia coins in change. (east gets Philidelphia, west gets Denver) San Francisco only makes proof state quarters right now, none of them are issued for general circulation. monkeyman
I used to think that way too but over the years it just isn't that way around me. I'm in Illinois and over the years I've seen it sometimes with a flow of D's and then the next year a flow of P's. Back in the old days of circulated S coins, they seldom made it here at all. Sometimes I get as many of the P's and D's at the same time. Must be due to being in or near the middle of the country.
Thats generally good advise. But, if what you like is a handfull of common wheats, or something of the sort, then thats what you should buy. Get what you like and don't worry if you could have spent more on something nicer. I pass up expensive eye-catching coins every day because I find other coins I like and would rather have. the only critic you need to have toward your collection is yourself. have fun! Guy~
It's more important to collect what you like and to pay an appropriate price for whatever you buy. It looks like you are off to a good start.
Well, a couple of the nicest people I've ever known, both members here, are sending me some coins to jumpstart my colllection. I'm still shocked they'd help a random newbie like me HAHA. Look through the thread youll probably see their names :hammer:
