My collection has no objective.

I guess I will be a man and admit that.

Instead of collecting a type set, or collecting a certain coin..like the V-Nickel for example...

I just collect whatever. If I like it, and if it's not really expensive...I buy it.

Does anyone else just collect whatever they feel like?

I figured that was normal personally.

My collection has world coins, ancient coins, US silver, US gold, modern US. Heck tbh what dosent it contain?

BTW - one of the advantages of collecting like that is that I have developed a very diverse collection

Jesus Brooklyn, what is that 67? 68? I am far from pro with buffalo nickels but that is def a good one. Only flaws I even see is a few tiny nicks on the rim.

My fav's change with the winds. I have always liked Mint sets and Proof sets. I did albums when I was a kid in the 60's. hoarded rolls in the 70's, went through a wheeties phase. Just started doing albums again. Did casino tokens somewhere along there. Mood changes, interest changes... just roll with the times. Currently? ?Combing through rolls "treasure" hunting. Nothing like face value for "cheap". I'm sure I'm going to find a Cheerio dollar, and a 1982 no mint mark dime. They are in this next roll I'm about to open, I'm sure!

  10. My collection is very diverse. I sometimes wish that I had the self-control to collect just one series or a type set but just cannot seem to do it. I think of it as the "kid in the candy store" phenomenon. :smile TC

If art imitates life, collecting by chaos will become a boom. And we'll soon be mumbling like Brando in Apocalypse Now.

and probably a stamp collector too."

Lol. I thought I was the only one. I just can't seem to concentrate on a single series. Also I can never pass on a good deal. I sometimes think of focusing on one thing, and selling the rest to finance it,but then I'm afraid I would lose interest. There are just way too many beautiful coins out there! Glad to see I'm not the only one with collecting adhd:)

I would like to think my collection has a direction, but what I'm collecting at a certain time always changes. Usually I work on sets. All of my coins are US Currency, although i do have a Crown Royal bag full of world coins that I've "collected" from circulation.
Currently I'm working on my Uncirculated Kennedy Halves Dansco and my Silver Proof Sets Collection. Before that worked exclusively on my from circulation Nickel set, the my Ike Set, and my SBA set. I find that sticking to one coin type or set reduces my impulse purchases. That being said, I still look for good deals on things that will fill wholes or be good additions to my collection, but if it isn't a good deal, I usually have the will power to pass.

I figured that was the case based on your slabbed coin pics last night. :smile

I am kinda the opposite. I have been buying only Proof Kennedy's for last few years until I complete my registry set. A few days ago, I had only one coin left. Now that 2012 are showing up TPG, I need 3 more.

But to each his own, if you like specifically NOT having a focus for you collection, I say "go wild"! If I could financially afford to not have a focus, I would be dropping money on morgans, peace, and barber coins.

I do gravitate to some series, but don't care if I collect all of them. It's simply not worth the money for some of the key dates or varieties in many series. Walking Liberty halves for example. I have a bunch of them, but don't care if I get them all.

95% US coin and paper currency. The emphasis is on the old classics. I have several specialized collections of Exonumia as well.

I collect what appeals to me. For me, putting together a series of something is too confining. I do this because I enjoy it. If I did the type/series thing, it would be too much like a job. Some enjoy that though.

The Franklin half is a somewhat modern coin.

    Made for only 15 years..

I just bought a franklin last night. NGC MS64.

Maybe I will work on a Franklin set.
