My 1875-CC Twenty Cent Piece. It was only produced for 4 years, 1875 to 1878 in the last two years only proofs were issued. The coin was authorized by the act of March 3, 1875. As soon as they made their first appearance, the public started complaining. Their complaints were based on the similar size and the design to the quarter dollar. The eagle on the reverse is very similar to the trade dollar eagle, however, the $.20 piece the edge is playing. The mint mark is on the reverse just below the eagle.
Even though it’s a short-lived series, the 1875-CC had the second highest production with the total mileage of 133,290 coins. For the same year, San Francisco produced 1,155,000 and Philadelphia only produce 38,500. Production dropped off sharply in 1876 with only 14,750 produced in Philadelphia and 10,000 at the Carson City Mint. This was due to the people‘s complaints and lack of interest in the coin.
In 1876 most of the Carson City coins were melted. It is believe the same fate happened at the Philadelphia Mint for that year. Due to the low mileage and short live series $.20 pieces are difficult to locate and they are priced on the higher side
