Very happy I completed my Collection to date! Sat down and laid them all out and it's all been done by bwrs. Came up with a lot of extra war nickels and some extras from the 30s, 40s, and 50s also!!! Now I just need to start on those buffalos.......
Congrats...that's a worthwhile achievement! Although, I already have a complete Jefferson set (finished as a teenager from circulation and purchases), I have been searching nickels consistently and have found most of everything, except 38-S, 39-D, 43-D, and 44-D&S.
Congrats! If I may ask, how long did it take you? I started putting a set together about a month ago and have everything from 66-present and I have a little more than half of the dates/mints from 38-66. Just curious.
For the benefit of those of us over 30 who don't use our phones for text messages, or speak acronym, what does "bwr" mean?
It took about 3 months and about a total of $4200 in nickels looked through, the bank tellers aren't very happy with me! I think I was real lucky getting these done, both P and D, in the time I did because of a little luck. I found more than one bwr that was nothing but early dates and war nickels, but my favorites was finding the key dates and 2009 date because I didn't think it would ever happen!! Also found 34 buffalo and 3 liberty nickels!
I found a 09 in my $10 of nickels today. That's only my second one. I've found more war nickels than 09's. There was also an Alladin's Castle Arcade token in one of the rolls. I have no idea how that made it into a roll considering it's not even close to the shape/size of a nickel and they were BWR's that I checked.
I've been searching rolls of nickels, about ten per week on average ,for approximately one year and have found no 09's. I've found two no date buffs, about five war nickels, one proof and lots of common dates from 30's, 40's. I still have 19 holes to fill in my 1938-1961 nickel collection album. Most of the stuff I'm missing are war nickels, S-mints and the tough to find in circulation dates. I already have one complete 1938-1961 nickel album, most of which were found during my childhood, 50 years ago. I resumed coin collecting about a year ago, a nice hobby for a senior citizen.
