I don't usually buy foreign coins but i decided to pick up a few today for $1 each:

    1973 Canadian Dollar
    1866 10 Centesimi Italy
    1905 One Penny British

    Total: $3

Does anyone have any info on these coins? The 1866 one seemed really old so I got it. The Canadian one had a different back than the normal ones (probably like the bicentennial quarter). The british penny from 1905 on the obverse had the guy's head facing the opposite direction than the later years so I got it lol. The italian and british ones are in good condition and the Canadian one is prob AU-MS. Any thoughts or information that you guys could give me? Thank you.

I don't know much about those coins. But I'm thinking the same way you are; 100+ year old coins for $1 each can't be a bad deal.

I for one, love those British and Canadien large cents or pennys. A whole lot of collection for the money really, and some great looking coin too !!

They're probably worth slightly less than a dollar a piece. But honestly, a dollar is pretty much the lowest price you can reasonably ask for. Isn't it great getting world coins so cheap? Besides, look at the mintages on that 10 centissimi!

Wow thanks for the info and the canadian dollar has silver in it?!?! WOOT

Oh and they were all in a giant world coin bulk bucket for a dollar each. I ask the guy, "How many world coins can i get for 5 bucks?" He sternly says, "FIVE" I almost jumped out of my seat lol oh well only got 3 cuz he wasn't willing to bargain but I am happy with the ones i got

Those mintages have to be multiplied by 1,000.
    So, the real mintages are:

    10 Centesimi
    Mint marked
    M Milan 36,000,000
    H Birmingham UK 40,000,000
    N Naples 67,000,000
    T Turin 16,350,000
    OM Strasbourg 20,000,000

If it has no mint mark then it is from the Paris Mint, with a non-quoted mintage in Krause.

1 $ is a bargain for this coin when bought in VF or better. You mostly find those over here in Belgium in VG or F.

Hey thanks for the info. It has the N mintmark so it was made in Naples which is the most common. Oh well I still like the fact it is 141 years old :)

In 1973, Canadian Mint issued two different dollar coins. One in .500 silver and other in nickel was for circulation.

The silver version was issued to commemorate the R.C.M.P centennial with the police riding the horse while the nickel version was P.E.I centennial commemorative with the legislature building on reverse. Also the silver version is slightly bigger then nickel issue.

So based on the reverse design, you can identify if it's a silver coin or a regular dollar coin.
