I have found 12 two centers over the years and most are in real nice shape for some reason. They hold up pretty good in our Michigan soil. My indian heads come outta the ground in real nice shape also and they are made outta the same materials. Anywho, check out the shape of these two. The two best I have. Love those old coins. Jim
I think I need to move to Michigan and get me a metal detector. Actually, I've recently decided to start a nice collection of two-centers. I think they are one of the most underrated and undervalued U.S. coins out there. The 1872 is tough, but even it is cheap considering its scarcity.
You probably already know this but for others who may not. The 2 cent coin was the first U.S. coin to have the motto, "In God We Trust" on it.
I don't think I have ever seen dug 2-Cent pieces in that condition. We're going to have to get a metal detector and move to Michigan. New Jersey sand/soil destroys everything it touches
Nope, I found it on the land I live on. It was a ship building community when there was a canal basin in the town on the other side of the river from me. There were a lot of houses back here at one time, only one remains from that time. It was built in 1850. So, most of the coins I find around here are older. My family owns about 90 acres back here, so I have a lot of ground that I have not touched yet. The name of the town was Gaytown, named after James P Gay, the shipbuilder. I just love to tell people I live in Gaytown.
