Well, I have decided to open a B&M store in my town. There isn't a coin store around for miles. I have to drive 45min to an hour just to get to one. Wish me luck, store opens on 1 November. Any advice that I haven't thought of will be well appreciated. The store is in the old downtown district of my town and just happens to be the old bank, which comes with the original vault. We have been hard at work getting it ready to open. So if you are passing through Knob Noster MO stop in and say hi!
Wish I could too.... I go to work for Uncle Sam until 2010 just about every day. The good thing is that I have one local show dealer consigning a large case and my lovely wife that doesn't take no crap from anyone. Unfortunately I will only be able to work the store on Saturdays until my enlistment is up. She is also going to be selling home decor items in the other rooms to help pay the rent which is dirt cheap....
Using an old bank is a tremendous idea! A working vault could be an attraction for some people, especially if it happens to still have safe deposit boxes. Make sure the local newspaper does an article and interview with you. Also try to get the local kids interested by perhaps offering to give a little talk and coin exhibit as an after school activity. Most schools seem to have them and the people who run them are always desparate for ideas on keeping the kids entertained. Offer them vault tours if you have to. Make sure you are visible around town. Don't "hide out" in the store and just wait for people.
I know its pretty funny, They are the panthers....when i got stationed here 7 years ago I thought where the hell is knob noster...
Wow, I never thought of that.... Great Idea I will definetely do that... This is why I came to you guys for ideas.. you are always full of good ones! I will end up working late nights a few nights a week to catch the folks selling coins. I know this isn't the best way to do buisness but I will do most of the buying on Saturdays im sure.
Best, no, very best of business luck. As Spock might say "Be Well and Prosper". Knob Noster, and I thought Poughkeepsie was bad. lol zg
Old banks are a great place for a shop. Believe me I work in one! I only wish you the best of luck! clembo
Hey, congrats! Are there enough collectors in Knob Noster to keep you in business? I just looked it up and it seems like a small place. Is the AFB just outside town still active?
Knob Noster, home of the stealth bombers, eh? Maybe you can get some of the security experts from the base to give you some advice. Seriously though, congtrats and good luck. I don't know when the next time I head to Kansas City will be, maybe a long time. But when I do I'll try to make the detour and stop by for a visit.
