I thought I'd start a new thread with my one win from AMCC 3. I bid on several coins, but I guess someone wanted them more than me. But I did win this one and I'm more than happy with not only the win, but the coin in hand. Very attractive even if the images don't show it as well as it could.

    NERO
    AR Hemidrachm
OBVERSE: NERO CLAVD DIVI CLAVD F CAESAR AVG GERMANI, Laureate head right
REVERSE: Victory seated right on globe, holding wreath in both hands
Struck at CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea, 59-60 AD
    1.51g, 15mm
    RIC 617, BMC 409, RPC 3645

From the portrait I would assume Nero was a rather handsome and trim young man at the time this coin was struck; however, like many of us, as time goes by, our bodies seem to thicken (read that to mean get fatter).

Although I was told to expect a little something extra in my package, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly humbled when I opened my package and read that the following coin was given anonymously in appreciation for my service. It happens that I did not have an example of this lady until now. So thank you so much for your consideration and generosity.

Great coin @Bing! If I had to lose one of my bids, I'm glad it was to you :)

Congrats @Bing, indeed a very attractive Nero and an empress I didn't know of. Always learning on CT :)

Tiny coins often look a lot better in hand than in photos, very happy you're pleased with it. And I'm glad you didn't have a Eudoxia! My own Eudoxia could use both a new photo and an upgrade...

I haven't seen many of her coins that are in great shape to begin with. I had my eye on one with a Victory reverse that was on ebay a couple of months ago. No bidders for an entire week so I dropped the minimum 9.99 bid on it. Someone sniped me with a couple seconds left. She sold for $10.50. :(

I made a point of collecting Eudocia's AE types (all two!) and wrote up her story:

    http://augustuscoins.com/ed/ricix/Eudoxia.html

Here is the top coin on that page:

    EudoxiaGRb6973.jpeg
    18 mm. 2.14 grams.
    AEL EVDOXIA AVG
Bust right draped and with pearl-diadem. Hand of God crowning her.
(The obverse is the same on all her coins.)
Eudoxia was not from the Aelia family. After Aelia Flacilla, wife of Theodosius, AELIA had become a title.

    SALVS REIPVBLICAE
Victory seated on a cuirass, inscribing a cross on a shield
[RIC has only a cuirass, but this example has more than just that, I think including a shield and quiver or parazonium.]
In exergue: SMKA for Sacra Moneta Cyzicus, officina A.
RIC X Arcadius 104, page 249 variety (with cross for chi-rho) from Cyzicus. Sear V 2084. DOC 284. Struck 401-2 [RIC] or 400 [Grierson in DOC].

I think her story is worth reading, and the end of the web page
    http://augustuscoins.com/ed/ricix/Eudoxia.html
has conclusions about "Sources and history" that are of interest for understanding history, even if you don't care much about late Roman coins.

I had the same feeling about the number of coins I needed but I never felt the urge to write her up before I gave up on my website and moved to Coin Talk as a primary venue for coin time.

Congrats @Bing - that's a wonderful addition.. and so well deserved!!

I think I have seen that you're in the top 10 (or maybe top 3? or so) in all-time posts on this forum? I may be wrong but you are right up there.

But there is one stat that seems not to be tracked at all - yet builds this community: "LIKES GIVEN"

I know you are #1. You make us all feel great and for that I thank you!

Well AMCC 3 was certainly interesting - so enjoyable. Due to the kids hockey tournaments I was never around for AMCC1 and 2.. so I pre-bid.. lost and selected a few coins from the unsold lots later.
I did not have success this time on my main targets.. just some great bidders present! but I do have to say I think I really got a great deal on the coin below. This is really a great coin in hand.. I am so happy with it - this coin has found a great home!! Bargain Bin? I don't think so!!

    Licinius II (317-324, as Caesar) AE3, issued 320-21. Aquileia, 3.33g, 19mm.
Obv: LICINIVS IVN NOB CAES; laureate head r.
Rev: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM; VOT • V in wreath, AQT in ex.
    RIC VII 71 (R5)
    From the Severus Alexander collection.
Rare! (As is often remarked, rarity estimates in RIC for late Roman bronze are not to be trusted, but this issue for Licinius at Aquileia is genuinely rare.)

I also received two gifts with my coin delivery.. Both are types I do not own.. one from the wonderful person who ran the auction and the second from an anonymous person. I want to thank you both! THANK YOU!!

Looks like a shill bid by the lister! No bids for a week and suddenly an instantaneous last second winning bid. It stinks.

Entirely possible. Definitely was a bummer. Oh well, I will add her in all of her seated Victory inscribing on a shield glory one day! :)

While I agree that shill bidders should be drawn and quartered, I am more likely to suspect someone using Sniping, a last second bid placing service. They might have set the bid long before you did but it was not placed until someone watching (like you) would not have time left to raise your bid. The free one I used in the past dropped out or sight two years ago with rumors that eBay started blocking their bids. Some charge a fee and some have a free use at 10 seconds but charge if you want to bid at the last second. I almost never look on eBay anymore so I don't know if any Snipe programs work now.

Me, too. I use esnipe.com for all my eBay bids. If I win something, and I sometimes do, it will be in the last few seconds. They charge 1% for winning bids. You buy, using PayPal, "BidPoints" that are used up as you win items, and charge nothing at all for losing bids, even if they are very numerous. If you are going to buy at auction on eBay, I highly recommend esnipe.
