Hey everyone, I was here a while back and posted a thread about a quarter I found in a roll of quarters that was missing a clad layer on the reverse side. Speedy was kind enough to suggest I have it appraised and authenticated by NGC, so I followed his advice and I'd like to update you on the outcome. I still don't have a way to post a picture of it unfortunately, but here are the specifics of how it's labeled on the slab. 2006 P 25C NEBRASKA CLAD LAYER MISSING ON REV 4.7G MINT ERROR MS 65 It's listed as having a $500 declared value, (and insured value), on the form returned from NGC. How much could I expect to get for this coin if I were to sell it, or would it be better to hold onto it? I don't know if it would increase in value over time or if the value is pretty standard, so suggestions would be helpful. Thanks everybody.
YIKES! Now that's a neat error! Not too sure how much it is worth, but I guess other collectors will be able to tell you a rough estimate.
Howdy Glad to hear that it came back a ok! As for the value that NGC put on it---that is really nothing---they do that so if it is lost they will have the money to pay you a fair market price for it. I think I saw a MS62 NGC Missing clad layer go off ebay for around $300....for coins like this....errors....there really is no set guide line for price--the best way is to put it on ebay or sell it through an auction like Heritage and see what it goes for. Maybe Mike will have a better idea on the value. Thanks for letting us know how it turned out!!! Speedy
My guess would be in the 500 range. With it being a 2006 coin you should get a good price selling now rather than later. Once more pop up it should drive the price a bit lower. Also some states have less errors than others. This also moves the price around. At any rate this was a nice find. Congrats.:thumb: Michael
I would ask http://www.fredweinberg.com/ , he buys and sells errors. Ultimately it is only worth what someone else is willing to pay.
