Ok, so first off there are a few reasons I think this is a reproduction or a fake. But it's still neat.

I know very little about these coins, I've been reading about the 1652 Mass. shilling for a couple of days and I understand that it was made over a few years with various dies and methods. So it's not easy to match what I have to an existing one.

I know that there are pine tree, oak tree, and willow tree shillings. I am not sure what this one is, the tree doesn't look very defined. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what this is (or is a replica of?).

The coin looks like it is old, there is pitting. I know it is at least 30 years old, that's when my dad found it and brought it home. But the surface does seem pitted. It also looks like the surface is flaking off, and that it is brass/copper/gold underneath. Since this coin was minted out of silver, is it unlikely that this is a gold coin? My guess is that it is a copper reproduction with a fake coating that is flaking off.

Also the coin seems way too much like a coin and not like a hammered/pressed lump like the other pictures I've seen.

So yes, I was watching "Pawn Stars" on the history channel recently and they had a coin similar to this and it reminded me that it was in my parents' safe, so I had them pull it out and take some pics for me. I will take it to a dealer eventually and have it appraised, but I was up thinking about it, and wondered if anyone else had any input.

I realize it's most likely fake, but it is kind of cool to research this stuff.

Looks like copper, too round, font is wrong. It's a copy and I'd say it's a copy of an oak tree. It definitely isn't a pine tree.

This one is also a cast fake. There are literally tons of replicas of the Massachusetts coins out there.

The second one is just another example of the same copy.
