Denarius, middle bronze and sestertius. All I'm missing is the aureus. Post your examples of various denominations with the same reverse types! Crispina VENVS FELIX Denarius.jpg

Somewhat less interesting are the denarii-aurei pairings:

    3c - Tiberius AR denarius.jpg
    3d - Tiberius AV aureus.jpg

    8c - Otho AR denarius.jpg
    8d - Otho AV aureus.jpg

    9c - Vitellius AR denarius.jpg
    9d - Vitellius AV aureus.jpg

Somewhat more interesting is a Galba aureus-sestertius pairing:

    7d - Galba AV aureus.jpg
    7b - Galba AE sestertius.jpg

Even more interesting is this Nero aureus-Vespasian dupondius pairing:

    6d - Nero AV aureus.jpg
    Aa - Vespasian AE dupondius.jpg

I also find this Claudius sestertius-Titus sestertius interesting (Spes holding a flower), although the Titus is anepigraphic:

    5b - Claudius AE sestertius.jpg
    Bb - Titus AE sestertius.jpg

While I don't have a high grade one suitable for this thread, the Nero/Roma sestertius is one of his commonly seen types. I am not aware of this reverse in smaller AE but Nero does have at least one type available in all metals and multiple AE sizes (the Temple of Janus type).

The OP shows how hard it is to tell sizes from photos. The middle bronze and the sestertius look alike and it is hard to tell which is which from the photos.

So, if you ever post a coin, be kind to us and tell us the coin's diameter so we can tell what size it is.

If you click on the individual photos, the enlarged size will show the coins in correct relative proportions (e.g., the enlarged sestertius will be proportionately larger than the enlarged aureus), since these are the way the coins are sized in my files. Unfortunately, it seems that the only way to get the exact relative size displayed on this site is to put the coins all into one picture.

Maybe the only way to fix this is to actually include the sizes in writing with the pictures.

Since the advent of digital photos, we have seen more images of coins enlarged to fit the space making a hemiobol and dekadrachm the same size on our screens. Printed catalogs of the last century were much more likely to show coins in 'exact size' making sestertii easy to tell from asses. I started recording the weights of my coins decades ago but still have not added a field for diameter in my database but now try to remember to measure new coins and write it on my file cards. I still make a 3x5" card for each new coin as I had done for years before I had a computer database. I have not seen the earliest ones for many years since I started the computer file but I still find it easier to look at a card that dig out a computer list for some uses.

    Is this a good idea?

I like the idea of letting the viewer know the size of the coin. Whether it should be on the photo itself or just in the post is a different question. It is work to put the information on the photo, so I have just been putting it in the post.
