I would like to hear others thoughts on this subject, especially those who collect copper. I know much has been discussed on other forums concerning this matter, and i have drawn some conclusions of my own. IS the look of red brown copper "conserved" with ms70 market acceptable? Why or why not? For those not familiar with what a rb copper coin can potentially look like after treatments here is an example in an NGC holder

Now if you look up that cert # you will get a picture that looks totally different but that is just poor pics on the NGC site. Notice that the holder this coin resides in is not the current holder being used by NGC. My guess is that this coin would NOT re-holder but this is a crap shoot. What do you think?

From what I have seen, even a hint of MS70 on a Lincoln and it will not get graded. That one does not look like MS70 to me.

I would not use MS70 on any coin I hoped to grade cleanly at a major TPG.

Copper and MS70 do not get along, IMO. The result is often a blue hue. Certainly there are coins that have slipped by, particularly in years past. Today I think PCGS and NGC are quick to bodybag such a look.

I spotted that coin as 70'd right away. What makes you think otherwise?

MS70 turns a coin blue - usually bright blue and not purple.

Me neither....but I've never used MS70. I need to get some to experiment with. I've seen pics of MS70 treated Lincolns and it's not pretty. The blue was very vibrant and obviously AT.

You should do a little experimentation so you know first hand what to look for. After applying to a few rb or bn unc wheats you will be able to tell which coins it will show color on before you even apply it. A local dealer gave me this same advice and I took him up on it. I used it on a few bu kennedy halves and some wheats in the au unc range. Like I said I spotted the teletrade coin for what it was right away. Blues pinks and purples. Not only blue. This topic came up between said dealer and myself as I sought advice on my collection of raw lincs. For the eight bucks I spent on the bottle and the few lincs that are now what they are I will consider it a cheap education.
