I received a MS69 Silver Eagle today with noticeable damage. Please look at the left breast of Lady Liberty and the lower portion of her skirt. I do not believe that this coin should be graded MS69...Do you agree?
Unless the "black dot" is a gouge, which I highly doubt, the coin is properly graded as MS69 (aka MS70)
Bullion ain't a coin. There is no such thing as an "circulated" bullion piece because they are not meant for circulation. I have even seen people trying to get a premium for early release attributed coins. They are not coins, they were just meant to be for the silver, not to be a coin. In my opinion, there seems to be a word somewhere at the beginning of the word bullion, that was purposely placed there because they are not coins. I am just glad it isn't a proof. That would be even odder because it is supposed to just have it's value as a PM. By the way, who graded it? If it is not one of the top 3 or 4 graders, then that would be where the problem lays.
The mark on the left breast is a GOUGE. It is shinny when looked at from different angles. Some of the silver is GONE! The skirt also has signs of being rubbed against other coins.
I'm not a coin grader, but, if it was me, I would return it if I could. Here is a listing of general descriptions for the various grades. It appears, according to this listing, the coin is overgraded. Good luck. http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/grades.shtml
Send that sucker back. If they made an error, then they will make it right for you. You have nothing to lose but an ASE with a gouge. BTW, it could be an error coin but obviously nobody at NGC caught it. They may have been grading a huge amount of ASE's supplied by Coinvault.
That's where you are wrong. I've heard stories of these ASE coins being spent at $1 because they Clearly say One Dollar And there are circulated pieces.
They may have been grading a huge amount of ASE's supplied by Coinvault. [/QUOTE] I don't care who you are; that there's funny.
Good luck telling your teller that its real. I find that if the value exceeded the face when it was minted, it is a waste of dies. However, that's what I get for buying coins with numismatic value instead of bullion. By the way, the mint in Charlotte died. I'm cool though if you want to spend an ounce of silver for a bag of chips.
