Another great addition to my 20th Century Type set! I got some money for Christmas and this was just sitting in MyEbay waiting to be bought...and I finally did. I got it for $125, which is a fair price in my eyes (on heritage they go for $110-$140). I'm very happy with my purchase and the seller had very nice pictures so I could make a well-thought purchase. It even has a touch of peachy toning which I enjoy :high5:
What a beautiful coin! I'm glad you are happy, and hope this made your Christmas a little bit brighter!
I just checked out the E-Bay listing where you bought the coin. The reason I did that was to see if the seller mentioned anything about the toning. After reading the entire listing, there is no mention of toning anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with the coin. It is a PCGS MS63 1904 Liberty Nickel and I think $125 is a fair retail price. However, don't be surprised if when you receive this coin in the mail, there is no green toning whatsoever. The photos suggest to me that the seller mixed two different types of lights while photographing the coins. Doing this can create all kinds of crazy colors on the photo that are not really on the coin. For example, here is a photos I took of a 1943-S NGC MS66 Jefferson Nickel using one fluorescent and on incandescent light. The coin is blast white. The bottom photo was taken only using florescent lights. I just hope you did not buy that coin because of the apparent toning. The coin will have a patina, I just don't think it will be green. Merry Christmas!
I definitely didn't buy the coin because of the toning. If it's blast white, that's great, if it has a little toning, that's great as well. I got it because the photo shows pretty good luster, and a nicely struck coin. A photo will never truly represent a coin, and I'm happy with my coin whether it's toned, toned slightly, or hardly toned at all. Either way, I still will enjoy it.
nice coin. Better photography! I will start to post some pics soon. (I got my wife a DSLR for her birthday!) Look forward to my asking lots of picture lighting questions and seeing a few of my coins!
