Someone had too much spare time, and too many spare barbers........... I wonder what PCGS would say in their "body bag" description. can you say..............altered fields?
That is very impressive. I wish I could see a pic of what the reverse looks like though. The reverse has to have a nasty crater. But that is a cool coin
hehe. well, the coin has already reached $45 on ebay, so other people must think it's cool too! It was actually turned into a pin. http://cgi.ebay.com/1905-BARBER-HAL...ryZ11971QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I saw a Kennedy similar to this but they "poked" Kennedy into the coin and didn't add additional parts. It was the coin itself with a "high relief" as you put it. I too like the way the barber looks. That took quality craftmanship to do that and the price reflects it. It's much more elaborate than the large cent rings I see all the time. Ribbit
If I would of seen it earlier I would of bid on it. I think it shows a lot of detail and some one really took some time on it. It also looks like the coins was atleast VF before he started to by the way the edges and stars look.
Just a word of caution on these, the early ones were works of art, craftsman would actually create them, but these things can also be made mechanically with a genuine coin. Something about this piece suggests that it would definitely need further examination to determine whether this was mechanically made or made by a craftsman.
