is it worth it to shell out the extra cash and buy a 70 vs a 69?

in this case the it would be 130 for the 69

    200 for the 70?

or 100 for the urh in the box with cert?

I'm looking at the UHR Kangaroo

    thx

Some people would say that there is no difference between the 2 so why pay more.

Well if you are buying because you like the coin itself, then no I don't think it's worth it since you probably can't see the difference with the naked eye. Now if you are collecting sets of these coins and your goal would be to have all 70s, then yes it would be worth it. I think a lot people buy MS70 slabbed coins as a show off factor or just to say I have a perfect coin etc. I have to admit, I have been guilty of that on a couple of coins. Both 69 and 70 were available and I spent the extra for the 70.

Can you tell the difference between a 69 & 70? If you can't, then the answer would be. "No!"

If you opted to buy the 69 because that's what it says on the insert, and you can't tell the difference between a 69 & 68, then buy the OGP instead.

For the coin you are talking about I see no reason to buy a 69 or a 70 either one. Just buy the coin raw and enjoy it. It's no different than the ones in the slab.

Buy the coin, not the slab with a grade slapped on it.

I am not a fan of slabbing modern bullion in most circumstances, so I have a definite bias. If you are buying the coin to enjoy and you can see the raw coin beforehand and like the look of it, you should buy that coin. If you want to enjoy a coin, don't put it in a slabbed, plastic prison. Also, it's also kind of fun and mysterious to not know how it would actually grade by the (ahem) "experts." (It's so hard to say that word with a straight face after having seen firsthand some of their crappy work.)

If, on the other hand, you are buying the coin for future sale or as a "look what I have" piece, buy 1 of the slabbed coins.

well most places that just have the raw coin is at least 12.00 or more shipping. So figure 215. For another 15 bucks, i could get a slabbed one in 69. Slabbing is clearly more than 15 from NGC. I agree i like the raw coin as well, and the wonder factor of getting it graded and what it "could" be. Also i've always been a bullion guy but find it boring lately so have been looking into more artistic nice coins. I too was against slabbing bullion...and here i am now. Sheese.

do boxes and coa make that much of a diff? thx for helping out this noob.

If you like artistic coins and kangaroos, make sure you have about $80.00 handy in July when the Kangaroo at Sunset is released. It is a simple, yet beautiful coin.

    Nope.

The 70 frenzy is dying out. 69s are just as good, or even better, than a 70.

I think this was the question in the first thread I ever started here on CT.
The difference between a 69 and a 70 is so small you can't even tell, most times I doubt there even is a difference.
What I think it comes down to is do you want a graded coin or a raw coin? Because even though you're paying that premium for the 70, you will also be able to sell it for a premium if you ever decide to sell. So to be honest I really think it makes no difference, its all just what one you'd be most pleased with owning.

If this is a bullion coin you are asking about, why not just buy two ungraded, in the box, with COA coins for the price of one 70? There's a chance one of the two would grade a 70...if not, they at least 69's so right there you're saving at least $60.

I have two 70's. My first one I bought for that reason, I just wanted to have one "perfect" coin.

You could buy it raw and then try to get a 70 at PCGS, they are stricter than NGC. If you really want to go the whole 9 yards, you could send the 70 to CAC. Talk about pride of ownership and "registry set", then! It would be off the charts!

If you accept the premise that there's actually a consistent difference between MS69 and MS70 (I assume there is, but I can't see it), then anyone desiring a perfect set would have to have MS70s. That increased demand determines the price. I wish every graded coin and an explanation sheet which enumerates the detractors that make up the grade.

I wouldn't worry too much about the grade difference. Sometimes the grade may depend on how that grader felt that day. And sometimes its really one tiny flaw, the only reason I can think of getting MS70 is if you're trying for a registry set.
