If you had two MS67+ 5FS Jefferson nickels, one had no bag marks on the obverse but 3 very small white spots, one very small black spot and a couple smudges you can only see at an angle on the reverse. The other has 2 small bag marks (including Jefferson's forehead) on each side and a small amount of nice toning. Which one would you keep, and why?
Without photos for comparison it is a hypothetical question not likely to get a consensus of opinion.
Welcome to CT. Photos are always appreciated, but you may not even have such coins and just want to know our opinion, so here goes. Not knowing for sure if those "spots" could be removed, like in an acetone bath, I'd probably choose the one with bag marks. Having a mark on the forehead might reduce it a grade or so, but mint bag marks are common, so it would be acceptable. JMHO.
Based on your description the second one is the keeper. But to be honest that is just a guess. Photos are needed.
curious only: if tpg graded, is it pcgs or ngc or anacs? if not graded, how are the steps being counted?
