Aloha. I was browsing Numismatic Financial Corp's Lincoln cents and came across this 1926-D in MS-63 BN. I looked at a closer pic, and the wheat lines appear to be completely rubbed off. And the obverse has a very mushy strike. Has anyone seen this before? The only date I have seen this happen is the 1922 No D which that alone has weak strikes for both the obverse and reverse. Mahalo for everyone's help. Here's the url. http://www.nfccoins.com/item.aspx?pid=4580-15&cid=52
Actually the die was very worn. They don't have to identify this. It is up to the buyer to note this and yea/nae it on this one. The grade is what is guaranteed. Buy the coin and not the plastic.
I would have to say that coin is over-graded. Yes, it is known for having a weak strike. But that is just a bit much as is indicated by several other examples by the same TPG and of the same grade. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=443&Lot_No=7177 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=210033&Lot_No=24020 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1139&Lot_No=7393 http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=210062&Lot_No=22032
