Lina (short for Angelina) is a collector in the short sense. She likes to pick up what is visually pleasing to her and anything that is unusual. Her tastes vary from ancients to moderns to foreigns to errors. She had a spectacular time at my (our) third day at the FUN show. So much so that I had a rather difficult time locating her and finally found her deeply ensconced and pouring through some Vatican coins. Being raised Roman Catholic, these coins were especially meaningful to her.
Wow, you converted her from Roman Catholicism to Numismania! I am truly impressed. My wife likes shoes not coins. Glad you both can enjoy the hobby. BTW: Nice pick-ups. I like the Mexican Pesos the best and have a few of these myself. TC
Watch out Green. Before you know it, she will take over all of the coin budget. The gals start off small and somehow just take control.
Very cool. I love the Vatican coins. I was in Rome over the summer and had a chance to view the amazing collection of Roman and Vatican coins at an amazing museum. I even found a Vatican Proof set for sale (in the gift shop at St. Peter's square). I had to go back on a different day and wait in line to get one...but I got one.
She enjoys it to a point. Then, when that point is reached, she'll back off for awhile. Not like us full throttle guys. We found a Vatican proof set for her Richie but she didn't want to part with the $55 (I think) that the dealer was charging for it. She's very thrifty.......
I don't blame her...although depending on the year,$55 nay not have been bad. But, there is nothing wrong with being thrifty. The set I bought was a 2011 set and I did a little research and I found the price they were asking was a little on the high side (compared to sets on the secondary market)...but I wanted to buy one at the Vatican itself. I thought the story was worth the premium. I paid about $185 for the set. It was pretty much the only souvenir I got on the trip (other than memories and my photos). Sounds like you and your wife had a great time down there Ken. Happy to see all the great coin pick ups too. Bruce
