Aloha, I have been looking like crazy for Matte Proof Lincoln cents for UNDER $1000. Mainly PF-63's or maybe a 64. I have my book right here with me and it says that PF-65's range from $700 to $900 when all I am seeing is $1500, $2500 and so on. Anywhere other than Heritage that you can buy a Certified MPL for under $1000? I don't have the luxury of spending thousands on one coin......

    Mahalo.

What book are you refering to ?

That should be telling you that your book is wrong.

It is a magazine under the name of coin prices.

    1910 in PF-65: $800
    1911 PF-65: $765

It would certainly be nice if those prices were right. Maybe my magazine is wrong. I bought it in August.

When you find them at that price in 65, let me know. Chances are the ones you are referring to are raw, in which case may not only not be 65, but may not be MPL.s. I would definitely want to see them in hand first, or at least have an agent look at them.

PR65's do not sell for the prices listed in that magazine. If you want to stay under $1000, you will need to buy one that grades 64 or lower.

Well - no expert on MPL's for sure, but I think on a coin like this you just need to be patient. Of course I found this 1913 PR64 on collectors corner. Not sure if it meets your criteria for what you are looking for, but I search collectors corner all the time. Also if this coin is not what you are looking for you may have to save or just be more patient. Some people, including me, have looked for years for coins that we like and want.

Never, ever, ever - base your buying or selling decisions on prices published in a book or magazine ! None of them are worth the cost of the match to set them on fire.

Now there is of course a couple of exceptions - one would be when the magazine is listing realized auction prices for a specific coin. Two would be the Grey Sheet, but I would not really call that a magazine.

Those two are nicer than the one I posted a link 2 that was under a 1000. Rick Snow is known for some very nice and very choice coins - which does drive a premium. Those two are very nice looking coins.
