The most ive spent on a coin was 25 dollars so im in the boat with you. Im newer to collecting so i need to get the basic coins before i get the more expensive (100+) coins
For a single coin, $225.... That will go up with the new Gold Kennedy, but most of the cost of that is the PM....
$200 each for a couple of ATB 5 oz coins when silver was a little higher than it is today. Edit: Oops, I forgot that I do have a nice $2.50 Gold Indian that I paid just over $300 for. 2nd Edit: Crud, I also forgot about the Gold Sovereign that I bought for my wife for around $400. I guess I spend more on coins than I realize. The most I've paid for a clad/copper coin was $25 for a good example of a flying eagle cent. I don't really go for the rare coin thing. If I have a choice between two coins that are identical except for the date/mint mark, one being $25 and the other $1000, I'll choose the $25 coin hands down. Not that I don't have $1000 to spend on a coin, but rather because I'd enjoy both coins the same and the $1000 valuation is how much it's worth to someone else based on rarity. I'm also not the type to assemble a complete set of any particular coin type. Give me one good example of each major type and I'm happy. The people assembling such sets are the ones who "need" that $1000 coin to complete their set, not me. I prefer variety over uniformity.
If I only count premium over bullion value, probably $100 or so -- whatever the premium was on the First Spouse I bought directly from the mint in 2011 (when gold prices were soaring). That said, I bought a 1 oz gold coin when gold was considerably higher, so... yeah. That's the high-water mark for a single coin. I'm kind of a bottom-feeder.
$220 on a coin to flip, which I am still stuck with... I have paid $400 for a lot of 90% silver coins, which I flipped also.
Close to $4500 with shipping just bought no 2 was $3990 haven't broke the $5k barrier yet may come soon
Though i,am more in to currency then coins i did buy a rather rare Carson City Morgan for $4,800 Ouch!!
Set my new record this past Saturday, $2500 which more than doubled my previous record. And it is probably about the ugliest coin I own. (and not even the rarest)
