Do any of you have money holders with Morgan dollars. Or any other jewelry with coins? One other Q would you take a $300-500 Morgan $ coin and hang it around your neck with a nice silver chain? Without harming the coin. O' Yeah another thing got pics ??
Now that is a coincidence. I was just about to start a thread about this topic. The only coin jewelry I own are money clips, but they are great quality and look fantastic. IMO, a good money clip just makes a roll of $100's look so much better than a silly rubberband. With regards to your second question, I see absolutely no need to make jewelry out of an expensive Morgan Dollar when you can easily obtain a quality MS63 common date raw Morgan for under $50. I obtained the money clips photographed below from the following website: http://coin-jewelry.com/ The photos on the website make them look cheap. I promise you that they are not. I will buy these over and over and over. I love them for myself, as a gift, whatever. They are great. BTW, I use my money clip almost everyday because I play poker. The clip can hold between 10-25 bills folded and you can expect the clip to last about 2 years with everyday use.
I currently own 2, a morgan dollar set into a bezel like the pictures above, and a 1942 walker glued to an art deco piece, that one is my everyday user.
great minds think alike Im working on making myself one I went out and got a 1924 Peace BU today and the holder is going for $50 I didn't bring that much $ thinking ti would be less. I'll post a pic of it when Im done it's my X-mas gift.
I frequently see coin jewelry in antique shops, particularly morgans and mercury dimes. However, the pieces usually cost more than the same undamaged coin(s) would cost so I've never purchased one.
Jewelry Awhile back I purchased a set of Merc dime earrings for the bride. Unless I've completley lost it they came from the mint. Gold mounted, probably around fifty bucks. She loves them so the price doesn't bother me
I have a bunch more, but I I rather not flaunt most of my collection too much, given one particular item is quite well known and might ID me. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a180/cesariojpn/DSCF0432.jpg
This was in a metal holder for a string tie and has been tooled. I bought it on ebay for less than $10. I didn't expect to win it, but the photo was so bad no one else bid. Bruce
Coin jewelry I realize this is not a US coin. In 1988 I bought two 1988 1/10th oz. Platinum Koalas from Australia. At the time very few jewelers knew how to work with Platinum. I took them to 5 jewlers before finding one who could do what I wanted. He used white gold to create the rims and pins. I paid $75 each for the coins and $350 for the labor. My wife collects Koalas and this is one of her favorite items of jewelry. BTW, not for sale.
