Seems a bit light although it has some wear on it. Ordered a new caliper so tossing this to the group to see what your input is. This was cased as legit by a trusted source but running it through my own check. Just seems a bit too far off tolerance as the wear does not seem to be that extensive. Morgan.jpg

I agree. The weight is off by a whole .81G. Standard weight is 26.73 . US Coins, weight Composition and Tolererances.jpg

Better photos are needed. Both obverse and reverse.

It's only 3% light and it looks pretty worn, seems like wear could account for it. Post images of both sides.

Heavily worn. Looks like a real 1878 8TF.

My opinion, there's no way that amount of wear could account for such a weight difference.

Typically, significant weight loss only occurs in coins grading low VG and lower coins.

Minor weight loss with wear, yes, but very minor.

The collar looks odd, uneven, wide at the bottom. Questionable weight is a red light also. Just my opinion. Good luck.

What does the scale show for a couple of known good coins?

As @jeffB mentioned above, when was the last calibration test of your scales?

The scale is new and I calibrated it with the weight and 2 other legit Morgan's I use to weight out with.

Can you get a close-up picture of where the wings meet the legs at the bottom of the wings?
