Ooops, posted to wrong board so here goes again...I'm new to the forum, feel lucky to have surfed into the site. Like S.P. Harper (thread
6-25), I have some Morgans to sell -- ten exactly -- and, while I've read your advice to Sean, have a few more questions. You dissuaded me from going to ebay, since all I have is an Epson scanner which won't give serious collectors enough info. Three coins are NGC, one is PCGS, but the others are slabbed by some outfit called IGS, which I gather is questionable. These six are preternaturally shiny and graded 65 or 66...So I gather the coins may have been manipulated--whizzed or dipped or cleaned? (I've picked up some lingo with zero understanding!)
Here's a scan of the 1880-S MS65 DMPLC...don't know if you can tell anything...my question is: I'm in NYC. I know Stack's. Is this a good place to go for a valuation? Anywhere else? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Almost wish I were a collector, Morgans seem like such fun, and this is such a nice place to hang out! Thanks...

If they are graded and encapsulated, take them to Ebay. Determine your minimum price, and set a reserve. A good scan of the label on the slab, with the best scans possible of the coin obverse and reverse will do.

If they are graded, they will sell. Regardless of the grading company. People may think an ICG MS-64 is equal to a PCGS MS-62 or 63, but the market will determine what you will get.

Take it to a dealer, you get a price that allows him to make a profit. Ebay is straight to the buyer.

Edited to add: have your auctions end in prime time; like Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening at 9 or 10pm PDT.

    People get paid on Friday.......

Edited again to add: you can do search on Ebay for "Morgan" "ICS" and see what people are getting for those.

Go here: http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.chtml?type=date&filename=morgan_regular to see what the PCGS coins will bring. Usually, Ebayers usually get within $10 of the PCGS index price.

NGC should be about the same.

Again, graded coins do well on Ebay, regardless of the grading company.
