OK, I continue to work on my grading skills-so, once again I am going to ask you experts about the grade of this coin. Dispite its condition, I really like this coin because it was one of my first rare date Morgan's-and I love the CC coins for some reason.

Anyway, I did a little research using some links I found in one of the other boards and I think this coin grades VG-8; I was trying to stretch it to be a VG-10 but I think its an 8 at best with its details. It also appears to have been cleaned to me. What do you guys think? Also, I bought this coin several years ago (1999 or so when I was still in middle school) so I know I didn't pay that much for it-but what do you guys think it is worth. My best value source is my 2000 Red Book (I've been away from the hobby for a while) and they don't show values for low grades.

Your coin was harshly cleaned, and also I think it would grade a g-4. I would estimate the value of that coin somewhere in the range of 50-70 dollars.

I would agree with your grade, VG8, and that the coin has been harshly cleaned. As for value - I would estimate about $150.

By the way Richie, I just updated the NR section today with a thread on Morgans, including grading them. You may find it helpful - CLICK HERE

And HERE is a link to values for the date & grade.

Actually, thats what I was reading before I made my post. I decided to read through that and try and grade one (I was distracting myself to put off studying for my Physics midterm).

I'm suprised to see that it may be worth as much as $150 despite the cleaning. I figured it would be worth around $80 or so (I think I paid close to $50 for it but I can't remember) but like I said-the best value reference I have on hand is my 2000 edition of Red Book.

For once I seem to have gotten the grade right, guessing VG8 from the photo. Carson City Morgans are so popular that they seem to defy the normal laws of numismatics regarding cleaning.
