    Hello all..

I wanted to get a few thoughts on this 1900-O Morgan, offered at Northeast Numismatics for $69. It's in a green PCGS holder, labeled MS-63.

I'm seeing a lot of scratches on Liberty's lower jaw and chin; wouldn't these lower the coin's grade, or are there specific factors with Morgans that would render them less important?

Those gouges on her neck sink her grade, to me. The jaw scrathes come next. It's all about clear fields. The cleaner, less bag marked, the better.

They say "bag marks don't count when grading" but that's bunk to me. Because a heavily bagged mark coin will NOT grade MS-67. Haven't seen one yet (and I would never pay for a "bag marked" MS-67).

Nice looking 63 if she looks that way in person. How's the reverse?

I wouldn't buy that coin at MS63...I would want a cleaner example.
The populations of MS63 and MS64 common date Morgan Dollars are ridiculously high, and there are so many better MS63's out there.
But I suppose it depends all on the buyer...to the coin's credit it has very nice luster for a MS63.

They? And who are you referring to?

That looks like a nice 63 to me. I really wouldn't balk at a 64, at least from the photos. Northeast has nice coins.

I have seen PCGS slab far worse as 63.

Northeast does have nice coins, which is why I've bought from them many times. I'm glad to know that others (especially Doug) aren't shocked at the 63 grade.

I kind of took a sabbatical from collecting for about a year after exceeding my budget. Trying to get back to it now; it's great to follow the forum on a regular basis again.

For an O coin from 1900, it is really nicely struck IMO. I have to agree with the others the marks on the obverse bring the grade down to about a 63. But for those marks, this may have gone 64 or 65 tops. But it's still a nicely struck coin from New Orleans, which was known for weak strikes.

Whoa - I'd forgotten this thread. But what is the significance of the Lincoln photo?

He's spamming random threads with pictures of his coins. This is the third different thread I've seen them in.

What you're doing is considered spamming, and extremely impolite. You don't just drop random unrelated pics of unrelated coins into someone else's thread. I was sincerely hoping you just didn't know any better, because of how large a violation of forum etiquette this is. This isn't going to generate much for friendliness.

Create a thread of your own. We'll be happy to look, but what you've already done has undoubtedly generated ill will in some readers.
