Yesterday I acquired two silver Morgan dollars (1884 and 1901). They've been circulated, but were in better condition than the other coins the dealer was offering. Are there certain years that are rarer or more valuable than others?

There are lots of Morgan coins that are rare, scarce and expensive in certain dates & mint marks. I would suggest getting a Red Book or a Red Book specifically for Morgan Dollars if you want to. Otherwise you can always search for a link that tells you the mintage numbers for Morgans in year and mint mark.
I agree with Books post. Any book with Morgan Silver Dollars in the Title and Q. David Bowers as an author should be purchased/rented/borrowed immediately :hail:
