    Greetings from cloudy england!

I know nothing about Morgan Dollars, but I bought this 1889 coin last week from a local car-boot sale.

I cannot see a mint mark - can anyone help? Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place!

The condition seems excellent with a nice lustre

    Any comments very gratefully received

No mint mark on this one. The mm is under the eagle on the Morgan.

thanks for the info Gary, and for the welcome message!

Is it unusual not to have a mm?

Most U.S. coins made in philadelphia pennsylvania did not bear a mint mark which is where your Morgan was minted. In my humble opinion, your morgan rates a grade of Extra Fine and is worth about $15 to $20 U.S.

Robert is correct as all Morgan Dollars minted in Philadelphia DO NOT have a mint mark! The mint marks are located on the reverse, right above the D and O of dollar. You will find the "no mink mark" or "Plain" as we call them for Philadelphia, the CC for Carson City, The O for New Orleans and the S for San Francisco and in 1921 the D for Denver.

I can't tell to much with the color of the photo but it looks XF/AU...if I saw it in person I might raise the grade.
