first of all, i want to thank you all for your help on this site. i had been away from collecting for a long time and this site has been an invaluable source for info (the internet wasn't in existence when i was collecting!). the past posts are a great resource. also, this site has members who are polite and helpful. as i am working on completing a set of morgans...which would you find a better value for purchasing at this time....carson city scarcer dates vs the other scarcer san francisco or new orleans mint? my budget for the semi keys will place me in the vg-xf depending on the dates. how about the philadelphia coins? i have been picking up commons in ms 63/64 over the past year. i have considered them a decent bargain as most have been purchased at 2000-20004 prices. doesn't seem to be a big demand for these at this time. anyway...i would appreciate your insight. thank you all.....steve

    Steve:
You are asking the million dollar question. Oh, how I wish that I had a crystal ball.
However, personlly, I think that the CC's have had a run up over the past couple of years.
I'd go with either the New Orleans (if better strikes) or San Fran's if lower mintages.
But, then, I like coins, so I'd probably buy both.

thanks for your input. probably should have phrased it better. i've seen the big craze on ms/prf69/70 coins...i remember when ms65 morgans were the "tulip" of the day. wasn't sure if any morgans had experienced a run up in price recently that perhaps i should avoid and thought perhaps morgan collectors would know. once again..i can't tell you all how much i appreciate all the advice and education available here. even conflicting opinions in the posts are quite educational. thank you again.

    Steve:
Yes, you are right about the 'tulip craze' of the late 1980's, and the stupid prices that happened.
Currently the 'tulip craze' of 2005-2007 is all about condition rarities, and their ilk.
In the Morgans the prices that have run up seem pretty stable, and very little stupidity.

Actually, prices for Morgan dollars have dropped significantly and steadily since 2004 when they reached their high. Click Here to see for yourself.
