Hi Folks, found this coin along with 12 other common Morgans in a dealer hoard. It‘s a better Date coin which I really enjoy. Feel free to give me your opinion on grade etc. Thanks
Looks like a score. That if my eyes aren't failing me seems to be the 79CC Capped die. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1879-cc-1-capped-die/7088
Thanks P&G for that link. It does indeed look like the capped mint mark…I would put a grade of AU50-53…imo…Spark
I believe an AU grade is not in reach. More like a VF35 or max. XF40. No signs of cleaning. Honest wear and a minor rim bump at 09:00 o‘clock.
I would agree with XF, but I rarely handle or try to grade Morgans, so take it with a grain of salt. I really like how it looks. Honest wear, good details.
No…? Sure looks like a match. @Rheingold Note the G in “GOD” is filled, as it is on your coin. I’d grade it VF/XF, too. Certified 1879-CC VAM-3: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...r-vam-3-top-100-variety-capped-die-ms-62-pcgs
I'm not sure what question the "no" is a response to. It's clearly the same CC as the PCGS and Stacks "capped die" examples.
I am sure you have your reasons why you think it’s not the capped die variety. It would be great if you could share them with everyone (instead of just saying “no”) to keep the discussion going. @Morgandude11 @ddddd @messydesk I think your opinion would be appreciated.
European dealer who certainly has no clue about US coins. @Rheingold It sure looks like the real deal, but any chance this is a counterfeit? Edge looks weird on the pictures.
