Morgan 1899O

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by Stanley Beerenfenger, Jan 11, 2016.

  1. As I have said previously I wanted to get into a new area of coin collecting and that is the Morgan Silver Dollars.

I was wondering if anyone could look at a Ebay item Ebay item #172052170511 Blast White Uncirculated 1899O Morgan Silver Dollar (Reverse Die Crack)when I questioned the seller about a red mark on the reverse of the Morgan dollar he was somewhat defensive and he said "Tarnish, toning spot as acquired. This coin has not been cleaned" anyone like to comment?

It's a common date/mint mark. I think you don't have to risk a problem coin here.

Look around for another. The obverse on that one is beat up. That gash over the eye is going to take about 10 stiches to close.

There are a lot of things that can cause red flags when it comes to raw coins sold on SleazeBay. Unless you are familiar with most of them and feel confident that you can buy such coins in relative safety, I'd suggest that you stick to buying slabbed coins from one of the top grading services. If the red spot bothers you now, it will probably bother you in the future. As stated earlier, it is a common date and there are probably more available.

Yep! Obverse looks like it went through a mine field. Plus, those are the "good" pictures he posted - who knows haw bad it is in hand?

Anybody want an exercise in frustration? I have it as VAM-11A. See if you can confirm my attribution. :)

I'll agree with you on the VAM-11A designation. It's an R-6 with only an I-3 though.

80% of VAMs carry no premium. If you can't get your jollies out of trying to attribute from images like this you aren't getting enough out of VAMming. :D

I agree wholeheartedly with Chris. There are currently 255 PCGS-NGC slabs of 1899 O on EBay now.
