Morgan 1878S variety question, this is blowing my mind

    Look at this reverse. Fake, counterfeit coin? The reverse die is all wrong for this coin (see feathers) It's a listing, not mine.:eek: I don't believe 78S had the reverse of 79 on any strikes.

    Definitely fake. It's hard to point to anything in particular. There are many small things that don't look right and I'm sure there are others that I'm picking up that I don't fully realize.

    What stands out the most to me is the surfaces and the rims. The fields aren't exactly lustrous or cleaned. The rims have what I call the "waterfall" and "double rim" look.

    The "Double Rim" is visible on the reverse from 11 to 1 o'clock.
    The "Waterfall" is on the obverse at 2 o'clock.


    Here's one of mine with "waterfall" rims. (Counterfeit)
