I saw this on line and found it interesting that there are so many people with an opinion on the nickel.http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_05/rogers052607.html Bruce.
Thanks, Bruce. You're right, that is interesting. The author has, however, ommited some very pertinant facts. First of all, the value of a nickel, is based upon the value of a dollar. If you want to value it's (US Five Cent Coin) metal content, you must first take in to account how wuch it would cost you to seperate the two base metals from their alloy. US currency is valued upon the trust that is given it by the "World Bank". We simply go along with whatever we are told.
The opinions on that website should be discussed in the Politics, World Events and Religion forum, not a numismatic forum, as they express a minority political viewpoint having nothing to do with the coins themselves.
Roy. The thread was in the nickel forum it was about the nickel coin if it were to be melted ,can't see your point please fill me in on why this should not be in this forum. Bruce.
IMHO whether I agree with it or not, a political attack on the existence of the Federal Reserve System is a subject that belongs in the PRWE, even if it mentions coins in passing. The rationale for that opinion is simple - such postings almost invariably draw opposition, and I come to CoinTalk to engage in hobby-related discussions, not the kind of philosophical disputes I spent so many years of my professional life engaging in.
Gee. You're right, Roy. We can not moderate this forum. That wasn't the case in the past. Someone must have changed the rules.
Roy. I see your point , it was not my intent in any way to bring politics into my post I did not see that.I was just thinking of nickels sorry. Take care Bruce.
