Following up my recent post focusing on Mark Antony, I can today announce a new acquisition.

I have accepted a trade deal with NAC sending this rare Antonian fleet coin in my direction.

I am extremely happy to add another fleet denomination to my collection, a light series dupondius of M. Oppius Capito. It is among the finest known specimens of the type.

Mark Antony and Octavia. Æ Dupondius (7.76g) of Uncertain Mint, Achaea. Fleet Coinage, light series. Circa 38-37 BC. M. Oppius Capito, propraetor and praefectus classis.

Obverse: M ANT IMP TERT COS DESIG ITER ET III VIR RPC - Bare head of Mark Antony right, facing draped bust of Octavia left.

Reverse: M OPPIVS CAPITO PRO PR PRAEF CLASS F C - Two quinqueremes sailing right; caps of Dioscuri above, B below.

    Reference: RPC I 1469.

Pavlos You pick out the big men. I'll make them brave!

What a lovely coin, congratulations! Somehow I am fond of coins featuring a ship, galley, ram etc aswel.
