So here is an oddity. It looks like Lincoln has been attacked. My first suspicion was that the penny was imprinted by a rough surface like gravel or that it was chemically burned, but neither of these fully seem right... 1. The rough surface is ONLY on the observe. 2. The reverse shows NO damage or flaws. 3. The edge shows copper was displaced by pressure. 4. Also, near LIBERTY shows odd stamping pattern. 5. BUT, the imprints show a very odd texture, pics the best I can. It is a very rough texture which made me think a chemical burn...it is only in the indentations. Could a messed up die do this? Or a science project? Or....a MONSTEEEEEEEEEER!
A damaged die would not create what you are seeing. A coin stuck to the bottom of someones shoe might create damage such as this but it's nothing more than post mint damage.
