yes, i know die chips are a variety, and sometimes called cuds, die breaks, die cracks etc..calling this a die break even though vendor called it a cud 2017-p ellis island wash. 25 center, with die break at left, (on woman's elbow) and a small die chip between eye and cap on man (hard to photograph, but trust me it is there, calling this one ms-66+. there is not a mark on it at 5x, if you use 10 x some very slight scratches keeping it from higher, and nice frosty cameo also for a circ piece (not a proof)...this is first package (it is in a 2x2, the line you see is the plastic...) and before i get admonished harshly, yes i know not an error, though is in coneca defintions of errors)
next is a 1991-p with rev clash, and what vendor calls a clash on front, looks to me to be a "bie" error" or variety (please do not nit pick) just enjoy the coins (unless trolling and nitpicking is what you enjoy, then have at it, lol)..just showing off my buys, do not profess any value other than i like them, and maybe you will too... please note, writing is vendor's not mine....
and of course, my most favorite i bought recently, a 2020 with a massive, and by massive i mean almost a half inch die crack on a 2020 shield cent, well, package arrived slit on bottom, and coin missing (doing claim with ebay now) IT is a tricky claim in that i am sending him back an empty package (his cost 3 and change) once he emails me a label, if he in fact sent it out at all, and not trying to pull one over on me, seems it is usually the bids i win for a penny (was 13.94 bidof 9.99 and 4.00 shipping) so, makes me go 'HMMMM" YA KNOW?? picture is buyers pic on ebay
why are they an error?? since they start with a die crack, then grow, then keep going till die is shattered or they catch it, i have been scolded before for not correctly identifying coins i post, trying to avoid that.. does this mean die cracks are errors?? what about vams?? was told previously a die crack is not an error, do not remember who told me..
Variety A variety is a coin that differs from its basic design type in some distinctive way and is thus differentiated by collectors. Mint Error Coins with major mint errors as a result of human or mechanical error during manufacturing. For the most part, mint error coins fall under one of three headings: Planchet, Die or Strike. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/1655/variety-versus-mint-error/ And https://www.pcgs.com/news/coin-error-or-variety
They probably don't recognize it as an error but a die stage. A deterioration stage. Everyone has different opinions. In my book it's an error!
oh, and this is from what you sent me: NGC does not recognize as mint error coins those with minor die chips, breaks and rotations, etc., that fall within our interpretation of mint tolerance. The determination of what constitutes a mint error is at the discretion of NGC. but as i said, they go in my error collection,,as well as double or over stamped mm, and :"worthless" machine doubling
vendor issued refund....i do not know why people are so afraid of dealing on ebay, i have only had 2 occasions (one as a seller the other as a buyer) where i got screwed on a transaction, out of over 20,000+ transactions, my cml account as well as playitagain (closed)..almost always they side with buyer
I have a few Misaligned Die Strikes attributed by NGC. I'm thinking of doing a thread on them soon. I will tag you when I do.
