Here's a silver rupee dated 1888 issued for Mombasa (now part of Kenya) by the Imperial British East Africa Company. The coin was minted at the Heaton mint, Birmingham, England.

Ian,the silver coins from Mombasa almost never turn up.It is always the 1 Pice coins that turn up.The scales design was a source for the Zanzibari Pysa coin designs.

The silver coinage is indeed VERY diofficult to find these days. Here's a 2 annas, but unfortunately it has traces (major) of having been used as a `pin' in the past. It is salvageable though and while the damage is all too apparent, on the positive side....it hasn't been cleaned :). I've also posted a tyopical Mombasa `pice' AND one that most commonwealth coin collectors completely overlook...a one pice from the East Africa Protectorate

Despite popular belief, those East Africa Protectorate 1 Pice (1897-99) coins are NOT common coins to find.I have got one dated 1898.I did come close to getting an 1897 one a few years back.

Ian,that Mombasa 2 Annas is a nice coin you have got there.

    Aidan.
