I have a coin shop that I go to and they deal specifically in old US coinage, not much of anything else. That's cool, each coin store has their specialty, however I've spoken at length with a couple collectors on this subject and their consensus is that there just isn't any money in modern coins. I collect some moderns, some pre-64, some pre-33 gold coins and quite a few older world coins. I'm sure there's alot of members on this forum who collect same as me but I'm sure there are others who are specific on what they collect. So what do you collect, if I missed something you can certainly add what it is? Also the term modern, crosses into alot of other areas so for the sake of this poll, modern is considered anything minted after 1955. This is just a poll to get an idea of what members collect, maybe even have some fun in the process. Post pics if you want. :thumb: Oh my, looks like I screwed up this poll somehow. Please disregard the poll and just answer if you care to. Darn! I'll get it right next time.
I'm watching Dragnet on TV. I love silver Franklins, Washington quarters, Roosevelt dimes. The kind of stuff Joe Friday would have in his pocket.
I'm not exactly sure what modern is, but I always thought that the start of the clad age was considered modern...
I do collect the same things you do as well as tokens and medals. I consider modern as being unique to each country since 1945. A few slightly older coins can legitimately said to be modern if their coinage can be said to be unaffected by WW II. The transition is the year that silver was replaced (usually by cu/ ni). Tokens and medals to a much lesser extent even have a clear boundary between old and new. In some cases old can be 2009 and modern can be 1820. In many cases there is no real distinction other than style or superficial changes.
