Well, when you consider that there were nearly 3 billion nickels minted with that date, it's really not surprising that there are still plenty of them in circulation.
1964 nickels were minted in such great number to offset the disappearance of silver dimes and quarters. The mint also minted 1964 dated coins thru 1965 and into 1966 in an attempt to persuade the public not to hoard the silver coins. It didn't work.
I just picked up a nice double clipped 1964 Jefferson,certified ms63 by anacs for under $20.00 Even for a more common date,that seems like a good deal.A neat looking coin too. ~ Jim
