Dollar Coins or Quarters? Dual Coin Slots Give Customers a Choice Interestingly, owner Oxadine (the one who made the decision to accept quarters and dollar coins, doesn't like the dollar coins because now he must sort them out from the quarters. (I wonder if he has ever heard of a coin separator.) So why did he opt to accept dollar coins? Because he thinks his customers won't know they are spending as much if they use fewer coins. Perhaps he is correct about his customers. Maybe they don't realize they are spending the same amount whether they use six dollar coins or 24 quarters. I say this because apparently they need instructions on how to use the dollar coins. Not surprisingly, many customers are hoarding the dollar coins rather than using them in the machines as intended. (I wonder how many think they are gold and valuable.)
