While looking through a few of these I noticed the shelf missing on G of GOD. While I realize this is probably a worn or grease filled die, I would like to throw a question out. Could this possibly be caused by a damaged working hub that created a die that was used for a time before the mistake was discovered? Just trying to understand to process. Thank you all!!
Since the devices on the working die are recessed, the same devices on the working hub would be raised. If the crossbar of the "G" is missing on the coin, then it would seem logical that it never existed on the working hub. If it was missing on the working hub, then there must be multiple working dies produced with this same anomaly unless the mistake was caught on the very first working die produced. If this were the case, it seems doubtful that any coins were even struck and the working hub was destroyed. I can't tell from your photo what may have caused the anomaly. Could it be the result of a grease-filled die? Could it have been scraped off? Who knows! ~ Chris

The coin has too much wear to tell. It could be a grease filled Die, a damaged Die or a damaged area. It's copper so it could have been scrapped off and now it's worn down. I doubt we'll ever know.
