Missing clad or experiment

    How would one distinguish between a penny that has a missing clad layer or has been dipped in acid and is now rid of it's copper plating?

    Appearance and experience.

    Acid dipping degrades the quality of the surface, whereas a missing layer generally results in a weakened strike.
