Help. i have a 1966 completely dark chocolate brown looking quarter. it is dark brown on both obverse and reverse sides. the side (rim) does not have the silver/copper layers like regular quarters do. i believe it's called a missing clad layer quarter. am i right? also, what would it be worth if i sold it? here's a few pictures. i took two front pic's of the same coin with different back grounds so you can see how intense brown this quarter is. also i included a picture of the side showing no silver/copper layer. thank you so much in advance for all your help.
twenty five cents. I'm afraid it just looks like a discolored quarter to me. if you really think it may be a quarter that is missing the clad layers, get an accurate weight on it an get back to use if it weighs around four to four and a half grams.
Hi, It's easy to tell that the coin has been discolored. It was probably buried and found by a person with a metal detector. Thanks, Bill
thanks for the replies.. i just got bank from the bank with 7 boxes of pennies. 6 new boxes (professional life) and one circulated box. can't wait to dig into the circulated box. feels just like christmas every time to me!!! lol.... wish me luck!!
looks like a dug up quarter out of the ground - alot of coins get that way if they are in a ground for a long time. i bet if you rubbed the edge of the quarter you would see the clad layers underneath the darken'd surface
