Is it just me or is this guys pictures misleading. He makes all his coins look like proofs. I have a feeling they are just silver in real life... https://www.ebay.com/itm/292020373108
I'll admit I tried to snipe one that wasn't too high from those guys about a week ago just to see what the coins look like in hand. Thankfully, I was unsuccessful.
It's just you! Most Morgan collectors know that the 80-S, 81-S & 82-S are known to have some of the best strikes with booming luster in the entire series. Chris
Well with the auction listed I would not say it is under graded, but just me. I would skip it and several other auctions by the seller.
An experienced collector shouldn't be fooled by those pictures. Go to any of the major auction sites and look at the hundreds of Morgans that are for sale each week to get an idea of what a typical MS Morgan looks like in higher grades.
I looked at his grading on some of the raw coins he has up for sale. To be subtle, he is 'optimistic' with his grades. To be factual, he must grade at night with a candle for his lighting.
Rule number one on EBay: don't buy from anyone who put WOW in the listing title. It is almost certainly not as good as they make it sound.
I,ve been watching this site for a while now...the pics. are tempting but I think he uses a strong light source because most of his dollars look like this. The coins are probably the usual for the grade but I havn,t actually bought any yet. I can,t really grade the surfaces because of the harsh lighting. The pricing seems normal but too low for a PL.
His pictures are a bit excessive but to me it's really not any different than any other coin 'glamour' shots that tons of sellers use. I'd rather see a picture of what the coin looks like in hand not the arranged photo shoot glamour shots where the coin only looks that way when held at an exact angle with the lights at this angle, etc.
I think I've been seeing a lot of the sold coins relisted, but I haven't cared enough to compare hit marks. I marked a couple lots watched, but never followed thru. I think he's probably getting a lot of returns for "not as described". Or shills.. ya know, whatever.
If a bit more in focus, yes. I'd much rather be surprised in a good way than surprised and disappointed when the coin doesn't match the glamour shot photos. Coin photos have gotten to the point where they're giving internet dating site photos a run for their money.
I took those images when I was first learning how to photograph coins. It's one of a few that I kept to remind myself how bad I was. Chris
